Favorite Room Friday

So Funny Magic is spearheading the idea of Favorite Room Friday, and I had to make sure I posted on this one. I’m sure she’d love it if you played along too!

I had two decisions to make: which room, and do I clean it?

Which room was tough as I love both the sun room and my workroom. But I’ve shared my workroom with you before, and the sun room lately has been a much favorite spot for the whole family, so the sun room it is.

To clean it? Well, I decided to do all moms out there a service and show it in it’s reality as it is this morning. Complete with an untidy nature table, box of old books that need to be sorted, and general untidiness. The floor is dirty, the Valentine’s decoration still hanging, and it’s under the light of a gray Minnesota morning.

This was the room that sold me on this house. This was also the room that Spinner was born in. (Imagine a birth tub right there in the middle of the room, just when the sun is coming up. Pure birthing heaven!)

The boys have their corner….

And I have mine….

(That’s a blurry one, isn’t it?)

I can sit in this room with the boys while they work in my vintage recliner, the one my grandfather always sat in when he visited, with the sun shining and maybe a bit of knitting with a cup of tea. In the warm months, I can sit hear and see the boys playing outside while I listen to their chatter. I usually choose to just be one with mess that is, and save the cleaning for later.

So what’s your favorite room??

I can’t leave this post without also giving a huge thanks to Emicat! (I’m so behind this week!) She was my Knitters’ Coffeeswap IV partner and boy did she pull off a great package!!!

She was a perfect partner since we both love organic, local and fair trade! I got some amazing Seattle coffee from Cafe Ladro along with some phenomenal local chocolates! She sent me some sweet knitter socks and some felt sheep coasters that my coffee has been resting on all week. (At least when Knittykid hasn’t stolen them, he loves them too). There was also a hand knit coffee cozy in my one of my favorite colors these days! And of course, she read my mind and realized the Duet sock yarn was one of the yarns I keep looking at and coveting;, she sent some in a beautiful green colorway. (She knows the dyer, how lucky is that???)I wish I’d taken a close up, but I had to take my picture quickly before the boys came down and saw there was chocolate in the box.

Thank you so much Emicat!!! This was a totally awesome box and everything fits me to a T. You make me want to visit Seattle right now!

Thanks for everyone’s sweet comments. Hope I didn’t sound like a whiner. I did get to relax and we have had some better days, although the boys are still being a challenge. The weather is one of the biggest problems. Little Man just needs to get outside, and the weather is not cooperating. We had snow today of all things….cruel, cruel, cruel!

Knittybaby’s bear doesn’t care. He has arms, legs and ears now, so nothing else can get him in a bad mood:

Pattern: Bedfellows Bear, from “Stitch and Bitch Crochet.”

Guage: no idea

Yarn: Wool of the Andes, Lamb’s Pride Bulky, Cascade’s super bulky stuff (the name escapes me now).

Notes: my first crochet project, ever! I’m quite proud, despite the excessively long legs and arms. He’s still cute and Knittybaby digs him.

Next: My birthday gift from the Skeptic and the boys. Carders!!!

I’m so thrilled about these. I need to put them together yet and then I’ll get back to that crazy mixed bag of colors I’ve got to spin up.

SP10 came through with an awesome birthday package!

These were just half the packages. Everything was so cute and wrapped so nicely with little notes. Once I opened it all up, I had this:

Chocolate, coffee, candy, one of my favorite yarns, and a notebook. Can I be more lucky? (Notice the little hand reaching for that bunny?) The coffee is so good, and perfect for a rainy, dreary week like this has been. And of course chocolate is always a great pick-me-up.

Thank you to my SP10!!! You really added some smiles to our house that day!

Next up, Little Man’s birthday. There’s a reason I’m still up this hour of the night! I’ve got until Saturday to get this done.

Hope to see all of you locals at the Harlot tomorrow!

Finally

So it’s a little late, this snowstorm, as I was already starting to look forward to my tulips. But I’ll still gladly take a good snowstorm, even in March.

On Thursday, Little Man decided that he and Knittybaby needed to sit back and watch the storm start up.

After two days of snow, this is what we awoke to this morning:

My ever faithful mailman showed up Thursday night around seven (he’s usually here by three, poor guy) with this lovely prize from Javajem. I won her contest!!!

I can’t say enough how thrilled I am with this package. Beautiful yarn, hand dyed by Jody herself. I love the colors! And inside that adorable little bag (oh how I love little bags!)…

Her own hand made stitch markers and earings, and two cute little sheepy erasers. I love these so much! I’ve been wanting set of beaded markers, and this little kitty ones are so cute. I’ve been needing new earings and these are so lovely. Thank you so much Jody!!!

Finished:

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Sport
Color: Vera
Needles: size 3
Pattern: Nothing fancy. Cast on 56, garter stitch rib cuff. Heel flap.
Verdict: soft and warm!

Where did these come from?

Oh my gosh, it’s a nearly completed pair of socks!

A better view of the colorway:

I was up to the heel on sock one Tuesday night. The Skeptic’s aunt passed away so we drove back to Wisconsin for the funeral. Since the boys were too little to go I just stayed with them at home all day and hunkered down, out of the cold. It’s amazing what knitting you get done with two happy boys and a house you don’t have to worry about cleaning. Although it was sad occasion and his aunt will be greatly missed, it was nice to see family again.

Isn’t this the perfect Project Spectrum colorway? The Yarn is from Little Turtle Knits, the soaker pattern a freebie at Curlypurly.

Look what arrived while I was gone. Cynthia was giving a huge hunk of her stash away. Yup, giving. All she asked in return was a few squares for Warming Grace. Cynthia is such a gererous soul! She sent me a Fleece Artist scarf kit, which I was expecting, and then surprised me with some lovely hand dyed yarn and a project bag. The squares will be out pronto. Thank you Cynthia!!
