I hit ten!!!!

So what should I buy? I finally got through round one of my Ten Project Challenge (see header) and I get to buy ONE skein of yarn. So, if you had that option, what would you get? Some of my considerations:

Handmaiden or Fleece Artist something-or-other (good yardage!)

Socks That Rock – (I still don’t have any)
Some small, hard to get indie dyer (I have to stay up late and watch carefuly to even score one skein – tips?)

Any other suggestions?  What one skein are you coveting right now?

  1. Such a difficult decision! I’m not coveting anything in particular at this point, but I see you have lot’s off good ideas!

  2. I’m a huge fan of Handmaiden and Fleece Artist! I would go with that. That said, i’ve never knit with Socks That Rock, so I can see the attraction.

If you have a good sock yarn stash, I’d skip the indie dyer and go for something that has received rave reviews already.

  3. The Yarnery carries Fleece Artist now, doesn’t it? fulfill the stash needs and support a local shop at the same time.

I’m no longer coveting the STR – I just received some this week in a Halloween swap.

the indie dyer option seems like too much work if it’s one of the high-demand ones. (though where there’s a will, there’s a way.) are you in the ISO/Destash group on Ravelry? every now and then someone’s destashing one of the highly-coveted yarns – might be worth a shot…

  4. Congratulations!

Hmmm…I have plenty of one-skein-of-this or two-skeins-of-that in my stash, so I’d probably go for some-skein-of-something-that-can-combine-with-what-I-already-have. Probably a skein of Baby Cashmerino to go with the few I have already–then I might have enough for a sweater for my daughter.

  5. STR is still my favorite, so if you haven’t had the pleasure, I’d go for that. Wollmeise is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth picking up. But if you want instant gratification, the Fleece Artist yarn is really nice, soft and gorgeous.

  6. STR is nice, but I think there’s much cooler yarn out there – poke around woolgirl.com and see!

Oooh- I have been coveting Seacell. It looks so glossy and shiny.

I agree with Chris – check out Woolgirl – I just found that site and there is a truly incredible selection of fabulous yarns.
oh – they have a Whale of a Skein, which is this great big skein of cashmere. And they have it in butter yellow. Beautiful.

    Congrats on finishing your 10!

  8. All of those choices are really good! Maybe some Seasilk?

  9. I like my STR but there are also lots of other nice ones out there!

I got some fleece artist in a swap. It’s very nice. Have you tried Malabrigo yet?

  11. Indie. Without a moment’s hesitation.

Hrm…. Pigeonroof studios, Dashing Dachs, and Union Center are on my “I’m watching you” list. (Ms. Pigeonroof was just in a nasty bike accident, so her fiber will soon become scarce.)

My favorite find of the year? Wollmeise, for sure. The twist is really hard- so some haven’t loved it (re: Wendy of Wendyknits.net). It knits into a fabulous fabric, wears well, the dyer is a genious– *and* it comes in skeins of 574 yards. 574 yards! If you order direct from Claudia, she subtracts the VAT, so I think it’s $23ish with shipping. http://www.wollmeise-yarnshop.de/ (click on the wee US flag at top right for English)
