I’ll admit it. My stash has gotten just a wee bit out of control. I can have as much yarn as I want, until it starts falling out of the closet and attacking me. So here’s my solution: The Ten Project Challenge. For every ten projects I complete, I can buy yarn for one project. Now this may backfire on me, because I could technically knit ten dishcloths and then go buy 15 balls of yarn for a sweater, but I figure this will all even out in the long run, right?

With this plan, I’ll be knitting on all those projects that have been waiting patiently for me, and with it being in ten project chunks I figure I’ll be a bit more motivated.

Exceptions to the rule? I may purchase yarn at any special fiber event, such as fiber festivals or craft fairs, places where I may find something special that I can only buy there and may never see again. The same goes for travel yarn. This of course, could also cancel it all out, but I’m not traveling 14 hours to a fiber festival to not buy yarn.

Ready? Feel free to join me if you want!

What an excellent idea! I wish you luck. I was doing something similar, though not so planned, but fell off the wagon with Yarnover and Shepherd’s Harvest. I think it’s time to get back on.

Good for you! I like that you will be allowed “treats!”

  4. [...] I’ve decided to come up with a “yarn regimen” in part inspired by Knittymama’s Ten Project Challenge. To keep a lid on the impulse shopping, I’ll keep a list of yarns, colorways, or other items [...]

I guess I would have to be truthful about all the yarn I really have! Because I just bought some sock yarn (chosen by Youngest Child for his own socks) and a little more yarn for a baby project I already have most of the yarn for. But, if I finish the two projects I have right now AND do the socks and the baby sweater right away = they might all equal out!
